Filigree Maker at the Royal Armouries

Filigree Maker at the Royal Armouries

In the spring of 2016, we received a message that deeply honoured us.

Our video Filigree Maker, which captures the making of a Luft piece using traditional filigree techniques, was selected to be featured at the Royal Armouries Museum in Leeds. The museum was preparing for Warrior Treasures: Saxon Gold from the Staffordshire Hoard, an exhibition exploring ancient craftsmanship, including historical filigree works.

The video was shown to visitors throughout the exhibition period — May 26 to October 2, 2016 — as a modern complement to the centuries-old techniques on display.

We had originally filmed Filigree Maker with director Batu Tezyüksel, to answer a simple but often-asked question: What is filigree, and how is it made today? Created in late 2015, just as Luft was coming to life with the support of two masters, the video was meant to document the spirit and delicacy of a time-honored art.

That the Royal Armouries found it meaningful — and reached out to request its use — reminded us why we do what we do.

A quiet honour. A moment we’ll always cherish.
